The manager of Delphine Persoon has lodged an official complaint with the WBC regarding the result of the world lightweight unification result between Ireland’s Katie Taylor and the Belgian Police Inspector and former WBC champ Delphine Persoon.
In his carefully worded letter to the world organising body Filep Tampere doesn’t mince his words. They want an immediate re-match specifically for the WBC title. As has been reported in other press sources today Tampere is looking to have this fight located in Belgium. We have printed a copy below of the official complaint lodged with the WBC.
The result of the Taylor vs Persoon fight has captured the imagination of the Belgium press and cartoonists have not been shy in drawing their own conclusions on the controversial result. The perceived unfairness is gaining traction everyday and the mainstream press have quickly rowed in behind Person.
In a story that is moving quite quickly in the last few days, Tampere, who is both manager and promoter of Delphine Persoon has already made a 300,000 euro offer to Taylor for a re-match in Belgium.
In many respects this is exactly what Katie Taylor needs. A rivalry. To date all of her opponents have faded quickly into the rear-view mirror. To truly build a legacy she needs also build a narrative. Persoon could well be it, at this stage of her career.
There is no doubt that Persoon gave a great account of herself in Madison Square Garden. That Persoon is a part-time fighter and full-time professional police inspector merely adds to her mystic and the sense of injustice.
What is being overlooked is that Persoon is vastly more experienced as a professional than Katie Taylor and used all of that guile to lure the Bray fighter into fighting Persoon’s fight.

What a lot of observers are also under reporting, due to the controversial nature of the result, is that it was a hugely entertaining fight. So another fight between the two makes sense on a number of levels. This time round the contest would stand on it’s on two feet without the necessity of a Joshua at the top of the card.
All in All – Persoon vs Taylor 2 is exactly what both fighters and European women’s boxing needs.
We know Katie Taylor doesn’t lack courage. The question is – does Eddie Hearn?
